In the final week before the Sunshine Swing takes over, the biggest statement was made by an Argentine in Acapulco.

Juan Martin del Potro defeated three top 10 players to win his 21st career title and ninth ATP 500 trophy.

The 29-year-old beat US Open finalist Kevin Anderson 6-4 6-4 in the final. En route to the final, Del Potro fended off strong competition in forms of Mischa Zverev, David Ferrer, Dominic Thiem and Sascha Zverev.

He has moved to eight in the ATP Rankings and will be a real contender in Indian Wells and Miami.

In Acapulco’s International event, Lesia Tsurenko rebounded from a bad start in the final to overcome Stephanie Voegele 5-7 7-6 6-2. It was the Ukrainian’s fourth career title and lifts her to 40 in the WTA rankings.

The second ATP 500 of the week took place in Dubai, where Roberto Bautista Agut was victorious. The Spaniard claimed the biggest title of his career with a 6-3 6-4 win over Lucas Pouille in the final. RBA moves to 16 in the ATP rankings, three shy of his career high.

The flamboyant Fabio Fognini added an eighth ATP title to his resumé in Sao Paulo. The Italian outlasted breakout star Nicolas Jarry 1-6 6-1 6-4 in the final and returns to the ATP’s top 20.

There was more Italian success in California as Sara Errani triumphed at Indian Wells’ WTA 125K warm-up event. The 30-year-old was too strong for Kateryna Bondarenko in the final as the match finished 6-4 6-2. Errani moves to 93rd in the WTA rankings as a result.
