I was back on 2FM's Game On to wrap the 2023 tennis season where Djokovic and Swiatek shone once again

With the 2023 tennis season in the books, I joined Shane Dawson on RTE 2FM's Game On to take a look back over the year.

Even at 36, Novak Djokovic still proved to be top dog on the men’s tour as he lifted three of the four grand slam titles (Australian Open, Roland Garros and US Open).

The Serb could have earned the hallowed ‘Calendar Slam’ if not for Carlos Alcaraz’s outstanding performance in the Wimbledon final. Still, he finished with a record seventh ATP Finals trophy to cement his status as the undisputed no.1.

Meanwhile, on the women's side, Iga Swiatek closed the season as the world no.1 after a fantastic duel with Aryna Sabalenka.

While not as dominant as 2022, the Pole still racked up the wins this year and earned six titles including a defence of Roland Garros and a brilliant showing at the WTA Finals.

For her part, Sabalenka pushed Swiatek all the way and and rose to a higher echelon with her first grand slam (Australian Open) and a period as the world's best.
