Background

My name is Stephen Higgins and I am the creator of Crosscourt View, an independent tennis site based in Ireland but with a global perspective.

This site combines two important facets of my life: journalism and tennis.

I first picked up a racquet in Primary School, when I experienced short tennis with a foam ball in our sports hall. From there followed tennis camps, the famous KitKat Tennis mornings, and eventually an actual club (Templeogue TC).

Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with a rare hip problem named Perthes disease aged 12. This robbed me of some good years of development, but I returned to the court in my late teens and have played ever since.

The passion for tennis has worked in concert with my occupation as a journalist and media professional. I actually made my first radio documentary about tennis all the way back in college!

Since graduating from Griffith College Dublin, I have worked for RTÉ, Newstalk, and Setanta Sports. In order to find a regular home for tennis writing, I setup Crosscourt View in the summer of 2015.

Alongside this site, I have written tennis articles for other media organisations and have become a frequent contributor for Ireland's state broadcaster, RTÉ.

Since 2025, I have written a number of articles in partnership with the Irish governing body for tennis, Tennis Ireland. In January 2026, I completed my attendance grand slam when I spent a week at the Australian Open.

These days, I continue to write about, report on and photograph the main tennis tours. I still play regularly too, often featuring erratic forehands and questionable dropshots.

Below, check out some of my favourite work to date, and how you can get in touch with me.

My Work

I had the privilege of working at the historic 2022 Laver Cup, where the Big Four male players of the era (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray) played on the same team

During Roger Federer's retirement press conference, I asked a question which, to my surprise, ended up going a bit viral!

I wrote a piece soon after about my time watching, and covering, Federer for almost two decades. A very personal article, you can read it here.

Here are some more pieces from my catalogue if you'd like to get a better understaning of my tennis reporting.
