I stopped by 2FM's Game On to talk about the early results and preview the tournament
The first grand slam of 2024 is up and running and the tournament favourites are still very much involved.
10-time champion Novak Djokovic endured a four-hour challenge from qualifier Dino Prizmic...but survived as usual. Elsewhere in the men's draw, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner had more comfortable openers though the Russian dropped a set.
On the women's side, world no.1 Iga Swiatek navigated her way past a stern challenge from former champ Sofia Kenin. She aims to earn her first major Down Under but will face a formidable challenge from Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina. There's also interest in rising star Mirra Andreeva, the latest Russian phenomenon.
